Broadmoor United Methodist Church | Baton Rouge, LA

Broadmoor United Methodist Church is a 4000-member congregation located in a large suburban area just east of downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Founded in the mid 1950s, the congregation became a home for many transplanted Midwesterners who came to work as engineers in local chemical plants.  Though Broadmoor’s congregation is 90% white, its children’s ministries and youth programs reflect the growing diversity in its surrounding neighborhoods.  Broadmoor’s brief mission statement reads, “Invite, Equip, Send, and Serve,” reflecting their desire to become a more missional congregation to their neighborhood and surrounding region.  Their project aims to better align its strong music programs with its missional and outreach goals, to discover other musical gifts in their increasingly diverse neighborhood, with the belief that music is a language that can help transcend other linguistic or cultural barriers.

Project:

Broadmoor’s Project proposes to expand their summer music and arts camp, partnering with other local congregations, in order to reach one hundred children with a week of training in music and art, in the context of a community of grace, culminating in the introduction of several new musical instruments and arts, and a worship experience at the end of the week led by the children.
